A Future Skills graduate is on her way to achieving her dream of nursing in one of Auckland’s major hospitals.
Shiao (Amy) Ting is passionate about healthcare and used to work as a nurse in her home country of Taiwan.
When she arrived in New Zealand in 1996 she first completed a diploma and then a degree in business.
However, Amy remained passionate about the health industry, working as a healthcare assistant at a private hospital in Auckland.
At the end of 2021, she enrolled in the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4) at Future Skills Academy.
Amy performed well in her programme, finishing at the end of last year. She was pleased to receive a pay increase at her current job when she graduated from her Future Skills programme.
Amy has now gone on to begin the Diploma in Enrolled Nursing at Manukau Institute of Technology.
She continues to work as a healthcare assistant, juggling a 35-hour work week with full-time study.
Amy dreams of one day working as a nurse at a major hospital here in Auckland.
“After I graduate, I would like to work at Auckland Hospital or Greenlane Hospital because it is my dream.”
Amy’s grateful for the opportunities and support Future Skills gave her and encourages others to enrol.
