Lavanya Katragadda came to New Zealand to advance her career in the technology industry after building seven years of experience in software testing and process improvement in India.

Originally from Hyderabad, Lavanya worked as a Quality Analyst and gained experience in software quality analysis and robotic process automation (RPA) testing.

“I’m passionate about technology, problem-solving, and improving user experience through thoughtful testing,” she says.

Lavanya chose AIC because she wanted practical, industry-relevant learning that would help prepare her for employment in New Zealand.

“Their dedication to building strong pathways for students and their willingness to support each student’s growth stood out to me. The curriculum felt holistic and designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world practice.”

After arriving in New Zealand, Lavanya completed a five-month internship as a Test Analyst with a local start-up, giving her valuable insight into New Zealand’s technology sector.

She says the supportive environment has been one of the highlights of her experience at AIC.

“The lecturers genuinely care about student progress, and the Learning Support team is fantastic. I also appreciate the diverse student community. Meeting people from different parts of the world has expanded my horizons, both personally and professionally.”

“The curriculum is hands-on and practical, helping us develop the skills needed for real industry challenges.”

Returning to study after several years in the workforce was not without challenges.

“Restarting my studies after a long gap was difficult. I initially struggled to get back into academic routines and adjust to studying again.”

With support from lecturers and the Learning Support team, she gradually regained confidence.

“Their guidance, workshops, and one-on-one help made a huge difference. What was difficult at first is now manageable and even enjoyable.”

After graduating, Lavanya hopes to work as a Test Analyst and continue developing her expertise. She is also open to starting in an entry-level Business Analyst role, with the goal of progressing into a full Business Analyst position.

Her advice to other students is to make the most of the support available.

“The Learning Support workshops and peer tutoring sessions can truly boost your confidence and help you stay on track. Asking for help isn’t a weakness, it’s one of the smartest things you can do as a student.”
