OUR STORY

Future Skills Academy was established September 2000 and began trading in January 2001, by Managing Director Sam Alavi. Sam has extensive leadership and management experience in the education and business industry.

Future Skills is a leading Category 1 education and training provider based in South Auckland and is currently registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) as a Private Training Establishment (PTE). Future Skills Academy is also accredited by NZQA to offer training in accordance with the New Zealand Qualifications Framework Standard.

In line with our core values, we strive constantly to provide a teaching and learning environment that is supportive, modern, fun and safe for both our staff and students. We offer a range of programmes for New Zealanders of all ages and welcome international students. We have 3 campuses, located in Manukau and Royal Oak and an international campus in collaboration with Otago Polytechnic based in Auckland City.

We have different pathways of study and all our programmes help both school leavers and people who want to further their education. All our students graduate, with a nationally recognised qualification and are well equipped with the skills and knowledge required for today’s professionals.

Sam Alavi
Sam Alavi
Group CEO

Sam Alavi has over 25 years’ experience working in the private education sector in New Zealand and predominantly in South Auckland, working with second-chance learners in a foundation education setting.  Sam established Future Skills in 2000 in Manukau, to provide better opportunities for youth in South Auckland to access education and employment. Over the years he has grown and diversified Future Skills education activities to include tertiary level programmes for levels 3 and above, and formed an alliance and partnership with Otago Polytechnic to set up the Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus catering to over 1,000 international students studying at graduate, post-graduate and masters levels.  He currently serves on the Boards of Auckland International Campus and Iamcapable and has a governance role for the delivery of building surveying to Building Control Authorities for regional councils, with BOINZ, Skills Org and Otago Polytechnic.

Lida Rowhani
Lida Rowhani
Academic Manager Foundation and Trades

Lida has extensive experience in policy development, research and management in the NZ education sector, working both at the public and private sectors.  She has managed a large team of academic and support staff, developing and delivering a variety of digital and online qualifications to domestic and international students. A positive, motivated leader with innovative problem-solving skills paired with her strong knowledge of the sector, Lida has built successful ongoing relationships with our internal and external stakeholders and business partners.

Vicky Dobson
Vicky Dobson
Group Director – People and Development

Vicky joined Future Skills in 2007. She is one of the long-standing members of the organisation with many years of experience in Human Resources. As HR Director, she is responsible for management of HR strategies and operational activity across our two tertiary education campuses, Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus (AIC) and Future Skills Academy.

Amin Soleimani
Amin Soleimani
Group DCE – Corporate Services

Amin is a chartered accountant working at Future Skills since 2013. He is a Business graduate from Massey University majoring in Accountancy and Finance. Prior to joining Future Skills, Amin worked in the public sector as an accountant. Amin is also active within the community in many voluntary capacities, most recently as the co-founder of a vibrant and fast-growing youth group. Amin is also leading the finance team at our Auckland International Campus.

Kavi Sewdayal

Marketing and Student Experience Manager

Kavi is the latest member to join our leadership team having come on board in October 2019. He is a business graduate who majored in Marketing and Business Management and recently completed his BCOMM Honours in Strategic Management. Kavi joins us with over 10 years’ experience in the sales and marketing fields in South Africa, including working with international students and leading a successful sales team in the private tertiary education sector. His role is to formulate and manage marketing strategy, lead the student recruitment team to targets, manage stakeholders and uphold the Future Skills Academy brand and reputation.
