It’s Rotuman Language Week. This year’s theme for Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta - Rotuman Language Week is Vetḁkia ‘os Fäega ma Ag fak hanua - Sustaining our Language and Culture. Supporting the umbrella Pacific Language Weeks theme of Sustainability, the Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta theme aims to develop last year’s focus on the Four Pillars of Wellbeing.
Rotuma comprises the island of Rotuma and its nearby islets. It sits in the middle of the Pacific Ocean approximately 500 km north of Fiji.
The Rotuman language is noted on the UNESCO list of endangered languages. Rotuman Language Week is held to celebrate the identity, language, and culture of Rotuma’s people.
