Health graduate Claire Lampad is applying the skills she learned to her new job as a care partner.
The mother of three gained valuable knowledge through the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Caregiving) (Level 2) at our Royal Oak campus. “Studying helped me learn many things like the code of rights, about personal plans and work safety procedures, and understanding that everyone is different,” she says. “The certificate helped me to get a job.” Claire,37, is thriving as a care partner in a home and hospital.
Before enrolling at Future Skills Academy, she was a stay-at-home mum. When her youngest son started primary school, she yearned to try something different. A former midwife in her homeland, the Phillippines, Claire was prompted to pursue healthcare. She turned to Future Skills Academy despite feeling nervous about communicating in English, her second language. “At first, I was very shy and nervous but going back to school helped boost my confidence. Our lecturers, Maria and Jubilee, were very kind and helped us to learn. I met new, good friends and enjoyed studying with them.”
