Staff and students have donned lavalavas and joined in a hula lesson to kick off Cook Islands Language Week at our Manukau campus.
This year's theme for the week is Ātuitui’ia au ki te Oneone o tōku ‘Ui Tupuna which means, connect me to the soil of my ancestors. It centres on the journey of Cook Islands people in Aotearoa along with the desire of young Cook Islanders to connect with their language, culture and identity. The theme mirrors the overarching 2022 Pacific Language Week theme of Sustainability and highlights the significance of language sharing and cultural heritage being handed down through the generations.
