It’s Tonga Language Week.
Held from 4 September to 10 September, the week aims to help stop the decline in the use of the language by the New Zealand-born Tongan population. This year’s theme is Ke Tu'uloa 'a e lea faka-Tonga 'i Aotearoa, which means Sustaining the Tonga Language in Aotearoa. It backs the overarching Language Weeks theme of sustainability. Tu’uloa means to continuously grow, nurture and sustain a valued idea, practice, event or memory in an enduring way.
Activities will be held around the country to mark the week. Some community groups will run events online while others will host face-to-face initiatives.
