Some of our students got involved in Mental Health Awareness Week last week. The theme for Day Two was “Give” so students took part in an activity all about giving compliments.

The group started by colouring a template to relax and unwind. They also used this time to talk and reconnect with each other. The coloured templates were then displayed on the whiteboard with each person’s name written on their drawing. The students then went around writing compliments for their peers on the templates to show how much they appreciated each other.

When the students read the compliments they received, they felt a boost in their mood and confidence, strengthening relationships among them as well.

The main goals of the activity were to increase self-esteem, build relationships, and create a more positive and supportive environment. Compliments have the capacity to make someone's day better, lift their spirits, and solidify social ties.

The activity is a straightforward but powerful technique to encourage good mental health and wellbeing. The activity encourages people to show one another their gratitude, generosity, and happiness through genuine praise.
