BCATS graduate Nyvia Katipa-Montgomery is applying the skills she gained at Future Skills Academy to her work in the building industry. The 24-year-old studied at Future Skills Academy to boost her construction knowledge. She loved learning about the different tools used in her profession with the New Zealand Certificate in Building Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 2.
She relished mastering hands-on projects in our state-of-the-art workshop. “I got to see how well I was progressing and liked seeing the end result.” Meeting new people and interacting with “awesome staff” proved to be highlights of the programme, Nyvia says. She advises prospective students to take the plunge “as the learning, whether it’s book work or in the workshop, will definitely help towards what you want to achieve.”
Outside the classroom, the Tuakau resident has a passion for sports. She not only watches rugby but plays it as well. Nyvia also gets close to the action on the Motorsport racing circuit where she volunteers as a flag marshal. She uses specified flags to communicate track conditions to competitors and serves as the eyes on the track for Race Control.
