Dr Sonia Gul

Sessional Lecturer

Sonia holds a Ph.D. in Telecommunications from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Additionally, she earned a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Computer Science from Lahore College for Women University, Pakistan.

Sonia has over 20 years of experience in information technology, networking, and computer science. Her roles have included teaching, research, curriculum development, and leadership at institutions such as King Faisal University, Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Unitec, and Cornell Institute of Business and Technology.

Additionally, she has contributed to network research, IoT advancements, and AI-driven solutions, with a strong focus on bridging academia and industry needs.

Sonia’s research focuses on:
- Wireless Communications & IoT – Optimising network performance and security in wireless sensor networks.
- Artificial Intelligence in Networking – Using AI for autonomous systems and network optimisation.
- Ethics & Socio-Cultural Impacts of Computing – Addressing ethical challenges in emerging technologies.

Her aim is to equip learners with practical skills, critical thinking, and research-driven insights to excel in networking, computing, and IT domains. Her goal is to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications to prepare students for both academic and industry success.

Beyond academia, Sonia is passionate about mentoring students, organising events and conferences, and staying updated with emerging technologies. She also enjoys exploring the intersection of technology and ethics in shaping future innovations.

She takes pride in mentoring students, leading research initiatives, and contributing to global academic communities. With a strong commitment to innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning, she strives to make a meaningful impact in education, research, and the evolving field of IT.
