Orientation activities are introducing our new international students to campus life, student services, and Auckland’s diverse cultural environment.

Today’s activities began with a karakia led by Cultural Advisor Matt Rua, who also spoke about the organisation’s core values.

Academic Director Russell Harray welcomed students to AIC, Auckland, and New Zealand.

He talked about the range of different cultures present in the room and said it was a huge advantage. He encouraged students to bring their cultural backgrounds into their learning.

Russell said Auckland, too, is a very culturally diverse city, and AIC’s staff represent around 26 different nationalities.

Russell explained AIC’s experiential approach to learning. He said students would actively participate in classes rather than just listening. He urged them to take advantage of all campus opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

This week’s orientation activities have included a student services presentation, IT induction, campus tour, insurance talk, employability introduction, and academic orientation.
