Students build tech connections at Auckland event
Students connected with industry leaders at the Migrants in Tech Auckland #20 event hosted by Auckland Council at GridAKL.
Auckland International Campus Employability Specialist Nicki Trueman accompanied a group of students to the event, where they heard from guest speakers and connected with professionals across the tech sector.
A strong theme throughout the evening was the importance of backing yourself and recognising your value.
“Don’t sell yourself short,” she said.
As someone who supports students on their career journeys, Nicki said the reminder resonated strongly. She said crafting a professional profile, telling a personal story with confidence and recognising individual strengths are all critical steps in building a career.
“You are your own career champion,” she said.
“Opportunities open up when we back ourselves, articulate our value and step into spaces that help us grow.”
Nicki said she valued the genuine conversations throughout the evening and the chance for students to hear about new journeys, achievements and pathways.
She said she looks forward to seeing where the new connections and conversations lead.
